Fathers Day at Chocolate Cafés 2018

Fathers Day

Father’s Day has been celebrated around Catholic Europe since the Middle ages so not as new as we may think. In these parts it is always celebrated on 19 March as this is St Joseph’s Day
In the UK we celebrate fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society on the third Sunday of June this year falling on June 17.

The Chocolate Cafes have many bookings for breakfast, lunch and afternoon teas. You don’t need to book however just turn up. At Henley we have over 90 chairs, Goring over 50 and Wokingham 150 chairs including its outside courtyard with 50 seats alone. So accommodating large groups of families celebrating dads, grandads and great grandads Day is never a problem.

Fathers Day this year, the weather looks amazing, so why not combine your visit to The Chocolate Café Henley with a trip on the river with our good friends Hobbs of Henley ….

Goring is located at one of the most picturesque parts of the River Thames as well as being on the Chilterns Walkway and so is perfect for walking, cycling and boating. We are the only café open on Sundays and Mondays and so very popular for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. Many people pop in and do takeaway sandwiches and pannini before returning later in the day for afternoon teas/ coffee and cake.

The Wokingham café is a very popular destination not only is the food so different from the other to but the delightful courtyard makes it a fab venue for familes and friends to meet and hang out in the sunshine enjoying food, a glass of wine or too and coffee, cake and ice cream.

Tap Water Refill Wokingham

Refill Water Bottles

Refill is a national practical tap water campaign that aims to make refilling your bottle as easy, convenient and cheap as possible by introducing refill points on every street.

We know water fountains can be expensive to install and maintain, so now friendly cafes, shops, hotels and businesses are welcoming people in to refill your water bottle – for free

The Problem with Plastic

Plastic pollution is damaging the health of our oceans. From plankton to pilot whales, algae to albatross ― no ocean life remains free from the effects of plastic waste … it’s even found in the seafood we eat. It’s been dubbed as “one of the most serious emerging threats to marine biodiversity,” by the Convention on Biological Diversity and between 8 and 12 million metric tons of plastic end up in our oceans each year – over 80% of it coming from land-based sources. The main contributor is larger plastic litter, including everyday items such as drinks bottles and other types of plastic packaging, as well as sewage-related related debris, such as cotton buds, wet wipes, sanitary waste and microbeads.

A million plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute and it’s predicted that figure will rise by another 20% by 2021. However global efforts to collect and recycle the bottles to keep them from polluting the oceans, are just not keeping up.

Here in the UK, the average household uses 480 plastic bottles a year, but only recycles 270 of them – meaning nearly half (44%) are NOT put in the recycling. This means that nationally, of the over 35 million plastic bottles being used every day in the UK, nearly 16 million plastic bottles aren’t being put out for recycling.

If just one in ten Brits refilled once a week, we’d have 340 million less plastic bottles a year in circulation!

Tap Water Refill Wokingham

A Refill Campaign was introduced in Henley, October 2017 to help reduce plastic waste. Chocolate Cafe Henley has signed up to the official scheme. But did you know that all our Chocolate Cafes, have always offered to provide tap drinking water and you may refill water bottles?

We have countless cyclists throughout the year, together with walkers and people visiting Holme Grange. Whilst there is an official scheme in Henley you can get free water for your bottle in the Chocolate Café here at Wokingham, Chocolate Cafe Henley or Chocolate Cafe Goring.

Price Changes and Your New VIP List Offer

Chocolate Tasting Experience

As you may have seen or heard in the news recently several high-profile cafés and restaurants have closed or reduced the number of outlets they operate.

The reasons stated have suggested that the minimum/living wage increases plus auto-enrol pensions has meant that these businesses can no longer make a profit or break-even.

Chocolate Café has taken the view that employees should earn a decent wage and deliver a great service. We are going to increase our prices very soon which will help offset these increased operating costs. But we are determined to help not only our staff but also our customers.

So, we have Introduced our special VIP-List.

By joining our VIP membership, you will save more when you order via our new online store. There are several vouchers/coupons available including 25% off our very popular Chocolate Tasting Experience for two which includes a glass of Prosecco each.

Kizomba Dance Night at the Cafe

Kizomba Dance at Holme Grange Craft Village

Every Thursday evening from 8-9pm we have Kizomba dance night …… both lessons and dancing at the café.

Kizomba is one of the most popular genres of dance and music originating from Angola. It is a derivative of Semba, with a mix of Kilapanda and Angolan Merengue, and sung generally in Portuguese. It is music with a romantic flow. It was the Kimbundu name for a dance in Angola as early as 1894 and is one of the growing dances in the UK at the moment.

Classes start at 8pm sharp and last for an hour – One class for all abilities led by renowned Kizomba dancer, Daniel Bowman.

Focus on the lesson is musicality driven rather than routine based classes. Guest teachers of different Kizomba genres are invited to lead the lessons from time to time.

Social dancing starts at 9 pm and finishes at 11 pm. We have our very own in-house DJ ….. DJ Visser playing a blend of Kizomba, Ghetto Zouk, Semba, Retro Zouk and Urban Kiz depending who is on the dancefloor.

There is a flat fee cost of £5 for class and/or social. Our dance club runs an honesty box rather than a door person. The honesty box is on the DJ Stand.
